I love the nightlife!

Abu Dhabi comes alive at night. Everyone seems to have been hibernating all day long. As soon as the sun goes down a festive atomosphere prevails. Cars fill the street with the sound of blaring horns. They communicate using their horns and it becomes almost musical once you adjust to it. Having spent my early formative driving years amongst New Yorkers it is of course my instinct to verbalize obscentities at them but Rob has been helping to guide my linguistic understanding of the different horns. I now completely understand why one would utilize the horn to it's fullest. The bumper prevails, cars stop whenever they wish to pause, they park wherever there is empty space- it doesn't matter if that means dividers or sidewalks. Drivers often create a line of parked cars in the middle of the roadways of parking lots leaving the matter of navigation and traffic flow problems to the next bloke who comes through. Pedestrians stand along the sides of major roads waiting for their opportunity to race across the street through oncoming traffic. Rob says they've nicknamed them froggers in Saudi Arabia (for all you children of the 80s video games). Eww was my initial reaction. That's awful. Now that I've been one myself I would say that it's much safer and more fun than riding in a car here!
